Welcome to Francesca’s Debate Club, a dynamic and engaging group class where children learn to express their ideas, listen to others, and build confidence in spoken English through fun, age-appropriate debates.
This class is designed for confident young English speakers at B1 level or higher. It encourages clear thinking, respectful discussion, and strong communication skills in a safe and supportive environment.
What will we do?
At the beginning of the class, if we have any new students, I will explain how the debates work.
After that, each session begins with an introduction to a thought-provoking topic, such as “Should homework be banned?” or “Is it better to have school uniforms?” Topics will always be carefully chosen, excluding politics, religion, or any other controversial material.
Francesca provides support, useful vocabulary, and optional planning materials to help them organise their ideas. The students will be split into two groups, and they need to communicate with each other to come up with main points and arguments. I will be switching between the two rooms, and if anyone needs help they can raise their hand.
During the debate, each student will have time to share their opinion, listen to others, and respond.
At the end of each class, Francesca gives constructive feedback focused on vocabulary, grammar, and presentation skills.
With no more than five students per group (split into two groups), everyone gets the chance to speak, share ideas, and develop their voice in English.

Francesca Hall

Francesca is a passionate and experienced English teacher who specialises in teaching young learners. With thousands of hours of teaching experience on Preply, she has helped children from around the world build strong foundations in English through engaging, effective, and child-friendly methods.
Her teaching is rooted in Dr. Stephen Krashen’s theory of Comprehensible Input – the idea that language acquisition happens most naturally when learners are exposed to language they can understand in meaningful, real-world contexts. Francesca designs her lessons to be fun, interactive, and tailored to each child’s individual level and interests, ensuring they feel confident and motivated to learn.
In addition to being a native English speaker, Francesca also speaks Spanish and German, which allows her to better support multilingual learners and connect with families from diverse backgrounds.
